Last edited: Mar 3, What I mean is that firstly Ryzen was supposed to support W7, then wasn’t and now it turns out it will. For me, I’ll be buying Skylake anyway probably , but the more competition on the market, the better – and due to Kaby Lake lack of support for W7, companies may switch to AMD.

EdKiefer , Mar 3, Well yes, but for corporate users buying a chip that is not officially supported is too risky. They’ll choose Ryzen instead.

OS either supports i. The support is up to drivers, right? And bundle you showed a link for is about chipset. OS kernel should be aware of certain features implemented in hardware to use them. Obviously OS kernel uses hw features through drivers for that hw.

When Win7 was implemented programmers were aware only of features of CPUs present or about to present at that time. If there is anything new that OS should support, I guess they bundled it in the drivers.

Take a look at content. There is nothing for CPU itself. They use such phrasing because nowadays chipset is contained partially in CPU. But why should I spoil your good mood? Sorry to interfere. Far as I know the Intel chipset “driver” is a collection of. Same with their Intel Management Engine driver which also contains some support software and their network driver which I’m guessing AMD has their own of these too although I don’t know if it’s bundled into some single download that takes care of all motherboard components Reference ones that is.

And then do a Asus and just write “Improved stability” as some vague patch note though well they do also provide info on support for memory or cpu models so it’s not completely blind. EDIT: Updating the. INF does update the component which is probably the reason why you need to restart after installing the chipset driver even if there’s no core driver part in there but well I’m no expert, Windows just works that way. Similarly AMD and Nvidia recommends rebooting after a GPU driver install even though WDDM can reset and continue though a reboot might clear the registry and memory and of course there’s the more thorough clean installs and uninstalls.

Frank then sent me a link to a post in Microsoft’s Technet-Forum , where the issue is also be discussed. I cant get AMD Raid drivers working correct with 20h1 If i try to update from drivers ok to 19h1 the system wont boot anymore after the 1st reboot. So i tryed to reinstall my pc with 20h1 from usb.

Ive tryed to load drivers at the install process. The 1st driver loads correct raid bottom device. The second one not. It trys to load the driver a couple of hours and do nothing. So i try to install windows without raid drivers and install them later. Installing windows 20h1 without raid drivers are fine. After installation i have the same problem. The second driver wont finisch installation. If i end up the proceas via taskmanager and reboot the pc, it wont boot anymore. Hardware: Asrock x Taichi, Ryzen 7 x 1x m.

This problem is confirmed by several users in the Forenthread. So it is not a single problem. In the AMD community there is now this thread , where the problem is also discussed. If you are using insider builds, then you may experience this issue. For the following Windows 10 versions no drivers are released yet. Maybe helpful for people with this hardware constellation. Thanks to Frank for the hint. Thanks for your hint.

Here his statement I’ve translated it :. Thanks for pointing that out. With the current drivers I could update to
